« That’s what a real community is. »

This is who we are.
Help us bring these values to life — together, we create this space.
Any breach may result in being asked to leave the event.

"A living community protects itself. Benevolent vigilance prevents problems before they appear."

What is this mantra for?

Why apply it

  • Everyone's safety and group cohesion
  • For you: the awareness of belonging to a living community
  • For others: knowing they're not alone

When to apply it

  • When you see someone who seems lost, isolated, or in distress
  • When something feels off — even if you're not sure
  • Before leaving the party, take a look around

How to apply it

  • Ask how they're doing — simply, without pressure
  • Tell staff or security if you see something
  • Stay available without playing the hero

What is a S.O.U.L. mantra?

A S.O.U.L. mantra is a short, memorable and positive phrase that recalls an essential behaviour for living the night together. These are not rules — they are shared reflexes, born from the floor.

What this means in practice

  • Respect personal, physical and emotional space
  • Be attentive to signs of discomfort
  • Offer help with respect
  • Report problematic situations
  • Don't look away

Why it matters

Collective protection creates a real sense of safety.

Watch out for each other — that's what a real community is.

The context

Everyone stays attentive to the well-being of those around them. The community is stronger when it protects itself. Benevolent vigilance saves situations before they escalate.

We pay attention to the distress signal proposed by the Canadian Women's Foundation. Taking care of each other keeps the rhythm going. Everyone is part of the overall safety and harmony. Seeing, supporting, reporting — that's participating in collective health.

Inspiration

This mantra is inspired by discussions held during the S.O.U.L. Montréal workshop-conference on October 17, 2024, at the Salon Daomé, as well as the public consultation held in March 2026.

The following capsules nourish this reflection:
