« We create this together. »

This is who we are.
Help us bring these values to life — together, we create this space.
Any breach may result in being asked to leave the event.

"A celebration doesn't exist without those who make it up. The tribe is not a backdrop: it's the living, fragile and collective work of the night."

What is this mantra for?

Why apply it

  • The integrity of the underground community
  • For you: your sense of belonging to something beyond the night
  • For others: a space built on trust and mutual respect

When to apply it

  • When you enter a space or community that isn't yours
  • When you feel judged — and the urge to defend yourself rises
  • Before commenting, criticizing, or dismissing someone

How to apply it

  • Observe and learn before judging
  • Engage honestly — not as a spectator
  • Respect the codes, history, and values of the tribe

What is a S.O.U.L. mantra?

A S.O.U.L. mantra is a short, memorable and positive phrase that recalls an essential behaviour for living the night together. These are not rules — they are shared reflexes, born from the floor.

What this means in practice

  • Acknowledge the invisible work behind the event
  • Respect the roles, limits and responsibilities of each person
  • Avoid entitled or consumer-like behaviors
  • Show gratitude toward those who make the night possible
  • Contribute positively to the atmosphere, rather than endure or exploit it

Why it matters

A tribe, a recognized and respected community becomes solid, resilient and lasting. It endures through time, trends and external pressures. Without the tribe, there is no scene. Without respect, there is no future.

Respect the tribe — we create this together.

The context

Underground culture rests on a subtle balance between individual freedom and collective responsibility. DJs, organizers, staff, volunteers, dancers, technicians, partners, security personnel: all participate in creating the same space, the same moment, the same vibration.

Respecting the tribe means understanding that no one is 'above' the experience, and that the celebration is not a service to consume, but a shared construction. The tribe grows stronger when recognition circulates. It crumbles when indifference, contempt or appropriation take over.

What the community said

« Love this. »
— Rachel, consultation S.O.U.L. 2026

Community Voice

"As an older person who often feels marginal at these events, I need to feel like I’m part of the crew. No judgment. No attitude."

"Back in the ’90s in Québec City, you’d sometimes feel judged or intimidated if you didn’t have the right look or style."

— Pierre, participant since the ’90s

Inspiration

This mantra is inspired by discussions held during the S.O.U.L. Montréal workshop-conference on October 17, 2024, at the Salon Daomé, as well as the public consultation held in March 2026.
